HOW WE QUANTIFY MEDITATION PERFORMANCE
The Science-Based Measurements

Meditation enters the professional arena, where neuroscience measures peak performance in real time — defining it as the Sport of the Mind.
This is Winning without Moving™
During the meditation session, participants wore 64 channels EEG headsets that recorded their brain activity, technology provided by ANT Neuro, Germany. These recordings were then analyzed to measure meditation performance.
The Scoring System
Two key measurements were used:
Concentration and Mindfulness Index (CMI)– This score identifies the participant's best 3-minute window of meditation, measuring their ability to maintain focused attention while minimizing mental distraction or "mind-wandering."
Silent Mind Index (SMI)– This composite score measures deeper meditation qualities including sustained focus, bodily awareness, and a sense of inner stillness. It reflects the overall depth of the meditative state.
The Results
All three participants demonstrated high-level meditation ability, each achieving a Silent Mind Index above 300 points—a threshold indicating very deep meditative states.
Hisami Tsurumori achieved the highest scores overall, followed by Yu Mizuno and Oana Budica.
